We had just a few days back in Wellington before we hopped on another plane and headed to Sydney for a long weekend. Dmitriy had a conference Thursday/Friday and I happily tagged along.
Sydney felt like home. Big crowds, amazing shopping, great restaurants, and a fabulous nightlife—we were overjoyed to be in a big city.
I spent most of my time shopping (getting lost) in the Queen Victoria building and surrounding areas while Dmitriy was at the conference. Thursday night we enjoyed cocktails with a view at O bar (it spins around, providing a 360-degree view of the city) and had a delicious steak at Rockpool Bar & Grill.
Wellington has a serious brunch game, but Sydney did not disappoint—one standout was Pablo & Rusty’s. I’m actually still drooling over the toasted milk bun and truffled egg salad I had there.
We spent Saturday and Sunday happily wandering around the city. While it’s fun to see the obvious sites of a city (in this case, the Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, etc.), Dmitriy and I seem to have the most fun when we have no plan and spend our time strolling and stumbling upon the unexpected.
We even had a big night out on Saturday…something we haven’t done since we left Philly. We grabbed dinner and drinks and then went to a fancy party at Hotel CBD. At this point, we’ve gotten quite used to Wellington’s casual nature…but it was fun to get dressed up for a change!
It’s funny how being away for an extended period of time has made Wellington feel a bit more like home. After a whirlwind of a few weeks, we’re looking forward to settling back into life here…and we’re especially looking forward to SPRING.
